The LGBTQ+ Community Center began with a simple observation: while Uruguay is one of the most LGBTQ+-inclusive countries in Latin America, finding reliable information, supportive community, and opportunities to connect could still be surprisingly difficult.

Whether someone was searching for an LGBTQ+ friendly healthcare provider, trying to understand residency or legal processes, looking for local events, or simply hoping to meet other LGBTQ+ individuals, the information often existed, but it was scattered across social media posts, private group chats, and word of mouth.

To help bridge that gap, a small WhatsApp community was created with the goal of bringing individuals together in one welcoming space where they could ask questions, share experiences, support one another, and build meaningful connections.

What began as a simple community chat quickly became something much more: a growing network of individuals helping each other navigate life in Uruguay while creating friendships, opportunities, and a stronger sense of belonging.

Today, the LGBTQ+ Community Center has grown into a community of over 150 members and counting; representing a diverse range of identities, backgrounds, and experiences.

While our WhatsApp community remains at the heart of what we do, our vision has continued to grow. We are building a centralized resource directory to make trusted information easier to access, expanding opportunities for social connection through community events, and laying the foundation for a future LGBTQ+ community center that supports people across Uruguay.

Our goal is simple: to make it easier for LGBTQ+ individuals to find community, access reliable resources, and know that they do not have to navigate life's challenges alone.

As our community continues to grow, we remain committed to creating an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive space where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and kindness.
